Winemaker’s Notes
2013 Estate Red Wine
The ‘13 was a bruiser when we released it. If Rip from Yellowstone was a wine connoisseur, this wine would have been his go-to. Fast forward 5 years, and the jean jacket has worn in, the tannins have softened, and the fruit has come forward, revealing a wine of great depth and complexity. I’m in love with how this wine is drinking right now.
2014 Estate Red Wine
Much like the ‘13, the 2014 vintage was fairly closed upon release, but it revealed itself sooner than the ‘13. I adore this wine right now. A quite warm vintage, the ‘14 is unctuous and concentrated - a perfect balance of tannin, fruit, and acid. It is in a sweet spot as I write this but can lay down for two decades if desired.
2015 Estate Red Wine
Figgins Estate Vineyard is the highest elevation Bordeaux variety vineyard, to my knowledge, in Washington State. Being so, it favors warm vintages such as 2015, which was as early and warm as they come. Every varietal I have planted was ripened to perfection, including the notoriously late-ripening Petit Verdot. The Petit Verdot from this vintage was just spectacular, and as a result, made up a substantial portion of the final blend.
2016 Estate Red Wine
sold out
The 2016 was the most readily approachable vintage we have ever released. It was ready to enjoy the day we shipped it. Though still young, this wine is just in its prime. It’s a “why wait” vintage, and I have more people ask me if we have any more of this wine to sell than any other vintage to date. It’s a very giving wine, balanced in every way, and full of ripe fruit and silky tannins. The ‘16 will not disappoint.
2017 Estate Red Wine
Right in its 7-year sweet spot, the 2017 FIGGINS Estate Red has the perfect balance of the freshness of youth and the softening texture that comes with some bottle age. Still showing gobs of ripe cherry and other red fruit, it has developed lovely secondary bottle notes of graham cracker, leather book cover, and a delightful little cola note. The mouth-watering acidity Figgins Estate Vineyard produces is keeping everything taught and juicy, while the tannins have rounded into a delightfully long finish. A joy to experience now, this beauty will also give you another 10 years if you care to lay it down
